Communicating With Your School
A pregnant student's conversations and letters with a teacher, principal, school nurse, licensed school psychologist, or any other school employee may not be confidential. Confidential means that no one else will be told about what is being said.
The State of Texas requires than any adult who thinks that a minor has been abused or neglected must tell the authorities. Sexual abuse is defined as the offenses of indecency with a child, sexual assault, and/or aggravated assault.
The definition of indecency with a child is very important to teens under 17 years old because they are still thought of as children under this law. Any minor under 17 years old who has sexual contact, even with someone her own age, could be considered abused and that sexual activity would have to be reported.
