What If You Can't Pay the Fee?

If the minor cannot afford to pay for the petition, she can ask to have the fee waived (permission to not pay). To waive the fee, the minor can fill out a form stating she cannot afford the extra expense of the court process on top of her share of living expenses, such as rent, utilities, health care, education, clothing and food. The amount of the fee depends on the county in which she files the petition.
