VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Volunteer Attorneys:
We need volunteer attorneys to represent our clients in court statewide.

“Over the years I have represented many extraordinary young women in judicial bypass cases. These young women came from homes where if a parent found out about the pregnancy, the minor was in grave danger of getting kicked out of the home -- or worse.  These minors are determined to finish their education and go to college – despite the situations at home.”  Dallas attorney

Hotline Volunteers:
We need committed volunteers in Austin to answer the 24-hour, toll-free hotline.   Calls are screened for legal referrals to our network of volunteer attorneys.  Shifts usually run for three hours.  Training provided.

“It is small time commitment with big rewards.  The minors calling the hotline are so appreciative of having an understanding person who can help direct them to the services they are seeking.”  Austin volunteer

Development and Outreach Volunteers:
We need students and others to distribute information at events where young people gather.  We need help with organizing house parties and other fund raising events.  We need help getting the word out about Jane’s Due Process and our services through social media.

“I friended Jane’s Due Process on Facebook and look for ways to make sure minors know that these services are available.”  Houston activist

More about Jane’s Due Process
Jane’s Due Process provides legal representation to pregnant teens, especially those seeking legal exceptions to parental notification/consent prior to terminating their pregnancies. Texas law recognizes that parental notification may not be in the best interest of every pregnant minor, and provides a judicial bypass exception in certain cases including incest, neglect, sexual abuse, sexual assault, and other special circumstances. Jane’s Due Process identifies those minors who, because of their unique circumstances, are likely to prevail on the merits in bypass procedures. Jane’s Due Process refers these cases to a network of attorneys who provide representation without cost to the minors themselves. Created in 2001, Jane’s Due Process is recognized in parental involvement states as a pioneer in delivering legal services to pregnant teens. The core of the JDP program is its statewide toll-free, legal hotline; lawyer referral program; and web site.
